Adoption Application Processor – Multiple Positions

The Adoption Coordinator is looking for volunteers to join the adoption application processing team in all areas FLR currently services (VA, WV, MD, PA, and DC).  Adoption Application Processors will check a prospective adopter’s
  • Veterinarian references,
  • Personal references,
  • Landlord approval (if prospective adopters rent), and
then consolidate this information in a report that is submitted to the Adoption Coordinator prior to the scheduling of a home visit.  You do not need to be located within a particular region to be an Adoption Application Processor – the work is conducted primarily over the phone (with some email).   Your time commitment may range from 1-5 hours a week, depending on your availability.

Requirements of the Position

The applicant for this position must have:
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Pleasant phone personality
  • Must be able to make the initial phone calls in a timely manner (within 24 hours of receipt)
  • Must be able to generate the report of your findings on each applicant when the calls are complete
  • Ability to contact veterinarians/landlords during normal business hours (requires daytime availability 9am-5pm or flexibility in work to make phone calls during the day)
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, web browser)
  • Reliable phone line

Adoption Home Visit Processor – Multiple Positions

The Adoption Coordinator is looking for volunteers to join the adoption home visit processing team in all areas FLR currently services (VA, WV, MD, PA, and DC).
The Adoption Home Visit Processor will:
  • Set up a home visit with each prospective adopter assigned by the Adoption Coordinator
  • Conduct the home visit
  • Assess the quality of the home environment offered by the prospective adopter
  • Generate a report of the home visit findings
Typically Adoption Home Visit Processor is located within the geographic region in which the prospective adopter lives as the work is conducted primarily in person at the prospective adopter’s home.   Your time commitment may range from 2-5 hours a week, depending on your availability and the distance to between you and the prospective adopter.

On occasion, the home visit may be conducted virtually (if there are no Adoption Home Visit Processors in the same geographic area as the applicant).   The Adoption Coordinator will assign those home visits to Adoption Home Visit Processors with high-speed internet connections and reliable telephone service.  

Requirements of the Position

The applicant for this position must have:
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Pleasant personality
  • Must be able to set up a home visit in a timely manner (within 48 hours of the assignment)
  • Must be able to view (and report on) each home and applicant objectively to ensure the best forever home for the animal
  • Must be able to answer questions posed by the applicant(s) during the home visit
  • Must be able to generate a Home Visit report of your findings on each applicant when the home visit is complete
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, web browser)
  • Patience
  • Flexibility

FLR Store Coordinator - One Position

The Marketing Director is looking for a volunteer to fill the position of FLR Store Coordinator.  The FLR Store Coordinator is an important part of FLR’s fund-raising team.  The FLR Store Coordinator will work closely with the Marketing Director, Website Manager, Photographer, and Treasurer to ensure that store sales are tracked appropriately.

The FLR Store Coordinator will identify artisan and crafters who would be willing to donate their creations to FLR for sale, work with the Marketing Director regarding ordering branded items, and be responsible for item storage and shipment.  The FLR Store Coordinator will track sales and suggest new items to be included in store offerings.  The FLR Store Coordinator will also work with the Photographer to ensure that appealing images are taken of each item for sale.
 
The FLR Store Coordinator will:
  • Develop an understanding of existing FLR processes and procedures.
  • Identify communication channels needed to carry out store-related duties.
  • Develop a process for providing customers with emails regarding purchase confirmation, shipment date, and shipment tracking
It would be helpful if you are located in the Winchester/Northern Virginia area, but we can work with you should you be located elsewhere.  Your time commitment will likely range from 2-5 hours a week, depending on sales.

Foster - Multiple Positions

The Foster Coordinator is looking for individuals willing to provide foster homes for our animals.  The Foster position is critical to the success of FLR.  Fosters will work closely with the Foster Coordinator, Foster Mentor, and Medical Director.  The Foster will also collaborate with the Events Coordinator, the Records Coordinator, and Website Coordinator. 
 
The Foster will:
  • Provide a loving, safe, and nurturing environment for a foster animal
  • Communicate regularly with the Foster Coordinator and Foster Mentor
  • Provide input to the adoption decision
  • Stay in touch with the Foster Mentor

Requirements of the Position

The applicant for this position must:
  • Be willing to attend area "meet and greet" events with the foster animal
  • Be willing to provide regular updates to the foster animal's profile on the website - both written descriptions of the animal's progress as well as pictures of the animal in the foster home environment
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Be able to assess whether or not a prospective, approved adopter will provide the best forever home for the animal and to provide clear rationale for that assessment
  • Have basic computer skills

  • Help navigating veterinary visits
  • Guidance with any concerns you might have about your foster animal

  • Help with publicizing your animal on social media and the website

Foster Coordinator - One Position

The Medical Director is looking for a volunteer to fill the position of Foster Coordinator.   The Foster Coordinator will lead the foster team, comprised of Fosters, Foster Application Processors, Foster Home Visit Processors, and Foster Mentors.  He/she will follow a foster application from receipt to conclusion, and then monitor all foster families as they bring foster animals into their homes.    

The Foster Coordinator will:
  • Assign each incoming foster application to a Foster Application Processor 
  • Upon receipt of a successful report from the Foster Application Processor, will assign the foster application to a Foster Home Visit Processor
  • Upon receipt of a successful report form the Foster Home Visit Processor, will confer with the Medical Director regarding approval of the foster family
  • Confer with the Medical Director at any point in the foster approval process if issues arise
  • Follow/track all foster animals as they are placed in foster homes and check in regularly with the Foster Mentors
You do not need to be located within a particular region to be the Foster Coordinator – the work is conducted primarily over the phone (with some email).   Your time commitment will likely range from 6-8 hours a week.

Requirements of the Position

The applicant for this position must:
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Be detail oriented
  • Have good tracking skills
  • Be able to follow-up on work being done throughout the foster process
  • Have people management skills
  • Be able to make assignments to team members within 24 hours after each phase is complete
  • Be comfortable using RescueGroups (training available if necessary)

Foster Mentor - Multiple Positions

The Foster Coordinator is looking for volunteers to join the foster team in the role of Foster Mentor, in all areas in which FLR currently operates (VA, WV, MD, PA, and DC).  The Foster Mentor will:
  • Mentor one or more Fosters simultaneously
  • Guide Fosters through an animal's transition period in the foster home and veterinary visits
  • Provide resources for Fosters regarding training
  • Be the initial point of contact for the Foster should issues arise
  • Identify when a problem occurs that necessitates finding a new foster family for the animal
Typically the Foster Mentor is located within the geographic region in which the foster families are located so he/she can be available in person.   Your time commitment may range from 6-8 hours a week depending on how many Fosters you mentor.

Requirements of the Position

The applicant for this position must have:
  • An understanding of the species for which his/her Fosters are providing homes
  • The ability to research available resources for Fosters
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Pleasant personality
  • Must be able to answer questions posed by the foster families

Photographer - Multiple Positions

The Assistant Executive Director is looking to fill the position of Photographer.  The Photographer will work closely with the Assistant Executive Director, Marketing Director, and Executive Director.  The Photographer's primary responsibility is to take photographs and videos that can be used in social media posts and on the website.  There are multiple Photographer positions open because we will need pictures taken in different geographic regions.

The Photographer will oversee the capture of photographs and videos:
  • At FLR events
  • At FLR educational programs
  • At FLR community relations activities
  • Of FLR animals
  • Of items for sale in the online store

Requirements of the Position

The applicant for this position must:
  • Have a camera and video recording device
  • Be detail oriented
  • Be able to commit to scheduled events and educational programs
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, web browser)
  • Follow naming conventions when naming your electronic files
Photo editing skills are not required but would be a plus.

Volunteer  - Multiple Positions

The Volunteer Coordinator is looking for a volunteers to help with various FLR activities and tasks.  Although "Volunteer" is under the Assistant Executive Director in the Org Chart,  our volunteers will work closely with the directors and coordinators in the area(s) in which they want to work.

Volunteers can take on a variety of activities.  See Become a Volunteer for more details. 

You do not need to be located within a particular region to be a Volunteer.  Depending on the area in which you are interested, the work may beconducted primarily over the phone, email, and the internet.   For other tasks and activities, you may need to be located in a specific region.  These issues will be part of the phone conversation when your application is reviewed. 

Your time commitment will likely vary, depending on the task you assume.

Volunteer Coordinator  - One Position

The Assistant Executive Director is looking for a volunteer to fill the position of Volunteer Coordinator.  The Volunteer Coordinator is an important part of FLR’s volunteer force.  The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with each member of the Board of Directors to ensure that all open positions are filled and that volunteers in those areas enjoy the work they are doing.  
 
The Volunteer Coordinator will:
  • Stay in regular contact with members of the Board of Directors regarding what's working well and any issues that might have arisen
  • Oversee the volunteer application and approval process
  • Oversee a team of Volunteer Application Processors and Volunteers
  • Work closely with the Assistant Executive Director to determine the outcome of each volunteer application (approve or decline)
  • Coordinate the placement of volunteers in different positions
The Volunteer Coordinator must be aware of FLR’s internal workings, processes, and documents so he/she can:
  • Make recommendations to approved volunteers about where they might work
  • Identify areas in which volunteers need to be trained
  • Contribute to developing training materials when needed
  • Be a point of contact for volunteers should issues arise
You do not need to be located within a particular region to be the Volunteer Coordinator – the work is conducted primarily over the phone (with some email).   Your time commitment will likely range from 4-6 hours a week.
